The first blossoms appear, the days get longer, and everything outside is changing.

If you are planning your wedding in March or April, you can wonderfully incorporate this time into your celebration:

1. Wedding in spring: Early bloomers and flowering trees

Crocuses, daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths bring the first colors to the landscape. In April, depending on the weather and region, magnolias and blossoming cherry trees join them.

Imagine posing for your wedding photos beneath a blossoming magnolia tree. Or perhaps using an avenue of cherry trees as your backdrop. With a bit of luck, the blossoming season will coincide perfectly with your wedding date!

If you have such images in mind, talk to your photographer about them beforehand. After all, you can't order the flower to bloom on the exact day.

You can also incorporate the season into the location: a garden with flowering trees, fresh branches on the tables, or a wedding venue surrounded by greenery.

2. A planting ritual for the two of you

Would you like to do something together during the wedding ceremony? Then plant a young tree or a perennial plant together in a large pot. After the celebration, take it home and plant it in your garden later, or leave it in the pot on the balcony.

Your guests can also take something home with them:

small plants, flower bulbs, a bee rescue kit as a keychain or insect-friendly seed packets.

Important: Please check beforehand whether the seed mixes are suitable for your region and the planned sowing time. Unfortunately, there's a lot of rubbish on the market that doesn't benefit any animal in our latitudes. And everyone should be able to receive gifts during the holiday season :)

Asparagus and edible flowers on the wedding menu

Do you love asparagus? Then talk to your caterer about whether it can be included in your wedding menu.

Edible blossoms and flowers can also add color to a plate or dessert.

Daisies, for example, can be used in salads. Candied violets or rose petals go well with desserts and cakes. Other edible flowers, depending on the variety, can also enhance savory dishes.

add to.

You should clarify this with the caterer well in advance. Not every supplier includes such ingredients in their standard offerings.

Important: Not every beautiful flower is suitable for eating. Use only clearly identified, edible flowers from controlled, untreated sources. Flowers from an ordinary bouquet are not automatically suitable.

Spring drinks and herbs for table decoration

Rhubarb, lemon, mint, and elderflower are perfect for this time of year. They can be used to create drinks that are also visually appealing.

A few ideas for your drinks menu:

Four colorful summer drinks from above: cucumber, lemon, grapefruit with a straw and lime with mint on white.

  • Rhubarb spritzer with fresh mint

  • Lemon and mint lemonade

  • Cucumber-lime drink with basil

  • Elderflower lemonade

  • Ice cubes with edible flowers

You can grow mint, basil, and other herbs yourself in your garden or in pots. Add them fresh to the glass just before serving. And if you place the herb pots on the tables, you'll also have some greenery for decoration.

Kill two birds with one stone – and you can simply continue using the herbs after the wedding.

Painted wooden eggs as name tags

If your wedding takes place around Easter, you can use painted wooden or porcelain eggs as place cards on the tables. Whether decorated with small flowers, simple colors, or elaborate calligraphy – the design can be adapted to your other decorations.

If you're planning a trip over the Easter weekend, the extra day off can make travel easier for some guests. Others may already have family visits planned. Therefore, if many guests are coming from further away, please inquire early.

On Good Friday, special rules apply to public events and certain celebrations. What exactly is permitted depends, among other things, on the federal state. Therefore, clarify this directly with your venue.

A commemorative photo taken together with pressed flowers

Would you like your guests to create something together that will have a place in your home after the wedding? How about a large picture whose treetop is created during the celebration using pressed flowers and leaves?

Here's how you can prepare it:

  1. Obtain a large canvas or a sturdy piece of cardboard and draw a simple tree template. The trunk is already determined – the blossoms will later form the crown.

  2. Use fully pressed and dried flowers and leaves. You can press them yourself a few weeks in advance or buy pre-pressed material.

  3. Prepare small bowls with the flowers and suitable craft glue.

  4. Your guests glue individual flowers and leaves onto the picture. There's also space for names or short greetings.

It's important that the plants are completely dry. Fresh blossoms can shrivel or mold later. Test the glue on a few blossoms beforehand to see if it causes any discoloration. Less glue is often more.

If you prefer to experience art in its finished form, there is another option: In live painting, I paint your guests directly at the wedding.

This way, you can create individual watercolors that your guests can take home with them.

You can find out how this works in my article "What is live painting at a wedding?" .

A shower of blossoms after the wedding

For many couples, releasing flower petals into the air after saying "I do" is a beautiful photo opportunity. You can buy suitable dried flower petals ready-made as flower confetti.

Often, these products contain mixtures of rose petals, lavender, marigolds, or cornflowers. When buying, make sure that they actually contain flowers and no plastic components.

These options are possible:

  • Dried rose petals

  • Dried cornflower blossoms

  • Dried lavender

  • Dried marigold blossoms

As you can see, the magic word is dry ! With other flowers, you should take a closer look. Lily pollen, for example, can leave stubborn stains on clothing. Fresh, intensely colored petals can bleed color when exposed to moisture or crushed. And with unfamiliar mixtures, it's not always clear exactly what's in them.

And before you order larger quantities: Check with your venue to see if flower petals are allowed. Even natural flower petals can be slippery on smooth floors.

What ideas do you have for a spring wedding? Write them in the comments :)

Yours, Marius
